WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE CONTINENT OF LEMURIA?
She said they revealed themselves as Lemurians. For about an hour, the woman stated that these beings are peaceful and have been here for centuries. They are here to save the planet, but society still waits for them to reveal themselves. She said our planet would get much worse in time if we let it happen. I was more confused than ever about why people would put this type of information out there in the first place. This sparked my interest in investigating further.
People worldwide believe these supreme beings connect to us through frequencies and live in many places worldwide and at the Earth’s center. As a kid, I remember reading this Time-Life book series, Mysteries of the Unknown. The first book of the series is called Mystic Places. As I sifted through the pages, I came across Chapter 1, Atlantis: The Eternal Quest. Reading further, I found Lemuria.

As a kid, I remember reading this Time-Life book series, Mysteries of the Unknown. The first book of the series is called Mystic Places. As I sifted through the pages, I came across Chapter 1, Atlantis: The Eternal Quest. Reading further, I found Lemuria.
How is Atlantis related to Lemuria? I knew the Atlantis story originated from Plato, but I had never heard of Lemuria. Is this a different name for the same place? Then the origins of the documentation of this lost city came to light. Hearing this folklore, I wanted to find out if there was evidence of Lemuria and the people who inhabited it.
Lemuria was first introduced in 1864 by a respected English zoologist, Philip Sclater. Interestingly, He found similar species, including lemurs, in western Australia, southern India, and Madagascar. Sclater hypothesized that there was a continent connecting this triangular area and a possible land bridge. He published his findings in The Quarterly Journal of Science, naming it The Mammals of Madagascar. Even though this journal could not be tracked down, many documented citations of the article were discussed on the website allthatsinteresting.com/lemuria-continent.
The idea of Lemurian beings originated from the Russian psychic Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. She spent a significant portion of her life traveling throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States and spent seven years in Tibet studying Hinduism (Time-Life 1987:28). In New York City, she met Henry Steel Olcott and founded the Theosophical Society in 1875. Then, after spending time in India, they established their headquarters at Adyar in 1882 (Britannica 2021).
In 1888, Blavatsky completed the two-part book, The Secret Doctrine, which explained the connection between Atlantis and Lemuria. This book described the seven “root” races, where Lemurians were the third and Atlanteans were the fourth. These Lemurian beings are described as hermaphrodites who only communicate psychically. The beings of Lemuria eventually evolved into Atlanteans after Lemuria sank into the ocean millions of years ago, whereas Atlantis is said to have sunk only 9,000 years ago. Blavatsky suggested that the survivors “evolved into modern Hindus and Europeans” (Time-Life 1987:28).
Gondwana was a supercontinent that broke up during the Triassic period, 200 Ma. Current scientists have reconstructed these continents to find inconsistencies with previous studies. A journal in Earth-Science Reviews suggests that this “early breakup history between East and West Gondwana is preserved in the Indian Ocean along with the East Africa, Madagascar, and Antarctica passive margins” (Thompson et al. 2013). Geological data displays the structure of the Precambrian basement, the Paleozoic marginal, and rifting of the Indian Ocean to recalculate the original split of Gondwana. Using onshore and offshore geophysical and geological methods resulted in “the full extent of major cratonic blocks and a good juxtaposition of key structures and basins constituting Gondwana” (Thompson et al. 2013).
The Lemuria Discovered video tells the Hindu story of Lord Rama and his humanoid monkey army, who built a massive land bridge to rescue Rama’s wife. According to the video, scientists confirmed the bridge’s construction and dated the rock 1.7 Ma, suggesting that homoerectus were the monkey laborers.
The construction of the bridge was never confirmed, which is a fallacy that creates allure to fantasy. However, this bridge does exist and is located between India and Sri Lanka. The Geological Survey of India suggests that the bridge was formed, not made, 500-600 years ago (Natarajan 2021). Whether or not the mythology matches the location and size of the bridge requires more research.
Many accounts have claimed to recover ancient cities underground, including videos.
The most significant and massive ruins are these extraordinary underwater giant steps featured in many Atlantis videos, Ancient Aliens, and the YouTube video Lemuria Discovered. The headline that repeatedly appears is “scientists baffled.” Instead of researching scientific geological journals on this subject, I recalled watching an episode of the popular TV series Expedition Unknown.
In season 2, episode 11, host Josh Gates mentions an underwater Atlantis off the coast of Yonaguni, Japan, and travels to investigate. These ruins were first discovered in 1986 by a research diver, Kihachiro Aratake. He believes these ruins date back 4000 years and used to be a coastal city. The underwater discovery visually appeared to be perfectly cut steps, channels, a pool, and a large trench resembling a temple. There is also a sizeable stone-carved face sculpture.
Professor Masaaki Kimura conducted carbon testing of these rocks, concluding they are 3000 years old. He believed it was a religious site. Next, geologist Masahide Furukawa viewed the samples brought back by Gates from the Yonaguni site. Inspecting these rocks, he explained that “the waves hit the sandstone and overlapped each other and made the stairs. In every sandstone, there is a thin layer of mud in between, and that is where it starts cracking and that is where it breaks off”. In other words, these ruins are a result of a natural formation. Furukawa demonstrates this by hammering the sandstone and breaking a perfect level.
Volcanologist Dr. Akihiko Yokoo studies 118 active volcanoes in Japan, which have 5000 eruptions annually. Gates mentions that these “volcanoes and earthquakes are part of the fabric of Japan. The country sits on four tectonic plates that are constantly shifting as they are forced together,” which are believed to contribute to the Yonaguni Ruins’ natural formation. Yokoo’s expert analysis suggests that the ruins are natural formations.
Diving again to the ruins, Gates noticed the similar “ridging and shearing,” as demonstrated by Furukawa. However, Josh did discover Stalactite, a mineral that can only be formed above ground, marking that this area was, at some point, above sea level. Photos were taken of the stone-carved face. Detailed scans revealed no chisel marks, indicating that humans created it.
The photo of this ancient underwater city went viral on Instagram. It was named the sunken city of Dwarka, but it might as well have been Atlantis, Lemuria, Kumari Kandam, or the lost city of MU. This was an obvious ploy to gain notoriety.
The actual underwater city is off Florida’s Key Biscayne in the United States, called Neptune Memorial Reef. This site is the largest artificial reef that promotes reef and marine organism growth. This underwater wonder is the only artificial reef in the world and a final resting place for the cremation of loved ones. Neptune Memorial Reef is expanding and planning to complete the project in ten years (nmreef.com 2022).
Off Bimini in the Bahamas, a road appears to lead to a city resembling large cobblestones. These formations are caused by the contraction of sedimentary rocks, as are those of Giant’s Causeway, Port Arthur tessellated pavement, and Mars polygons (Pauchard et al. 2010). None of these are created by humans, but they appear extremely interesting.
A video that puts Lemuria and the people more in perspective, named Lemuria discovered - Sunken Continent of an Ancient Civilization: Kumari Kandam. This video showcases these giant underwater steps that appear part of an underwater city. It then discusses the scientists who produced this hypothesis of Lemuria. The video also claims that Helena Petrovna Blavatsky was a trusted psychic who worked in murder cases and is said to be so accurate that she became a suspect. The Lemurians were described as having a similar appearance to Hindu deities with four arms. Then, it continues with Hindu mythology regarding Lord Rama and his army.
What is disheartening immediately regarding this video is that the first thing the narrator says is how many pieces of evidence have proven the existence of ancient mythical continents. As discussed previously, there is no proof from my research. Again, the step shown is from Yonaguni, Japan, not the Indian Ocean. Psychic Blavatsky was discredited in 1885 and considered a fraud, according to the Hodgson Report by the London Society for Psychical Research (Britannica 2021).
This video is a prime example of cherry-picking facts and mixing them with mythology. Scientists proved that a lost continent existed; however, that does not mean a lost civilization. Likewise, there is no conclusive evidence of any underwater lost city. As for the psychic phenomenon, archaeological evidence cannot prove whether this exists or not.
The way the country has been dividedided, people want to believe in something. Some people take advantage of that. Why all the attention on Lemuria now? The audio recording I spoke of initially said this is the darkest time. When I think of the darkest time, I think of the plague, the Dark Ages, or the wars. So many people suffered during that time. Even though we can make it worse, I cannot imagine this being it. I can write a book with information regarding Lemuria’s ideology and mythology. But wait, there are already many books written, including The Truth Behind the Legends of Mt. Shasta, The Smoky God and Other Inner Earth Mysteries, Lemuria: The Lost Continent of Pacific, and many more. Maybe not on a scientific level, but I would have to go through everyone to evaluate the facts vs. fiction.
Discovering an ancient continent is monumental. However, it still has not been proven that an advanced lost ancient civilization ever existed—a time before humans. The most common explanation for rock formations is a result of tectonic and volcanic events. Yet, the idea of Lemuria is a positive notion. The disturbing part is that people purposely put out false information for their self-worthiness. It might have been more believable if the above video did not attempt to glamorize the idea. Integrity goes a long way.

The book Mystic Places suggests that this evidence was supported by the evolutionary theorist Alfred Russel Wallace. German naturalist Ernest Heinrich Haeckel further proclaimed that Lemuria was, more importantly, an “evolutionary cradle” of humankind. However, according to Robinson, reviewing the book The Lost Land of Lemuria: Fabulous Geographies, Catastrophic Histories 2006, Alfred Wegener’s continental drift theory gained precedence over Sclater’s hypothesis.

Below the island of Mauritius, located east of Madagascar, scientists have found zircons embedded in the crust below the sea. Mauritius is a relatively young island that was formed 9 Ma. According to a journal in Nature Communications, Ashwal et al., Proterozoic zircons were recovered from Mauritian trachytic rocks dating 5.7 Ma. However, upon the underlying strata, “Archaean xenocrystic zircons ranging in age between 2.5 and 3.0 Ga within a trachyte plug” suggest these minerals “originally formed part of the ancient nucleus of Madagascar and India” (Ashwal et al. 2017).
Evaluating these minerals is significant because the land above is old, and the sea basins below are young. Finding zircons under the island of Mauritius means that a continent existed, then the tectonic shifts caused this land to sink (Ashwal 2017).
